Habit Formation & CessationForming healthy habits like exercising & dieting, and stopping unhealthy habits like procrastination or smoking can be difficult. Clinical hypnosis can identify how we decide to behave in unhelpful ways and teach us how to avoid avoidance.

Why Hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is a short cut process to the unconscious mind where, when accessed, receptivity to suggestion is increased. Our hypnotherapy taps into this natural, safe phenomena where the unconscious can choose to adopt suggestions much faster than in normal talk therapy.
Evidence-Based MethodClinical hypnosis is supported by a vast literature that highlights the efficacy of the therapy tool and its long lasting effects. The technique can be applied to a variety of issues through multiple therapy models.
|
Personalised TherapyOur model does not involve scripts or magic cures. We apply strategic therapeutic techniques that challenge how you think and target problems specific to you.
|
Experience & TrainingSome hypnotherapists use techniques that have not been updated for nearly a century and only achieve low success rates. Our clinicians are highly trained and practiced in the most up to date, evidence-based methods.

There is a great demand for mental health services to provide effective therapy that does not take 10+ sessions to see an improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is the process of moving into a state of heightened awareness where the gap between consciousness and unconsciousness is reduced. This increased awareness also increases our susceptibility to suggestion. Others have defined it as absorbed or directed attention, or a state of dissociation.
You are not asleep or unconscious during hypnosis - it is heightened consciousness.
Dissociation can occur in a variety of situations whenever our attention is directed without our knowing. These might include driving on your way home, reading an enthralling book or watching a film, religious services, music festivals or when day dreaming.

How does hypnotherapy work?
Hypnotherapy involves inducing a client into a hypnotic trance via suggestion and applying therapeutic interventions while in trance.
The type of induction and intervention varies among practitioners. At Stirling Hypnotherapy, we practice a permissive, Neo-Ericksonian approach to induction and suggestion. We also apply interventions based on strategic psychotherapy - an approach formed on the principles that some 'disorders' are a result cognitive processes that can be challenged and overcome by enhancing problem solving capabilities. We do not read scripts.

I don't believe in hypnosis
Hypnosis has a history of malpractice and performance hypnotists. The truth is, a lot of 'therapists' are under-trained and stage hypnotists aren't really hypnotising people. These cases have only given the technique a bad name.
Nonetheless! Here are some scientific papers you might find useful that show the efficacy and reliability of clinical hypnosis as a therapeutic intervention:

who can be hypnotised?
Everyone.
Some people claim that they cannot be hypnotised, or that they don't feel as if they were in trance. Sometimes that is true. They may have not been in trance, but this is the fault of the therapist, not the patient.
Individual differences may get in the way of inducing a patient into trance, but this is remedied by different approaches. After all, we're very good at hypnotising ourselves when we read a book or watch a film!

i'm afraid you'll make me do something
No hypnotherapist can make a patient do something they do not want to do.
Hypnotic suggestions are just that - suggestions. Clients can take on as much or as little as they like depending on what applies to them. An analogy that is commonly used among practitioners is the Captain and Navigator. The client is the Captain of their ship and decides on their heading based on recommendations from the Navigator (the practitioner).
Performing hypnotists (or stage hypnotists) like you see on TV cannot make you behave in certain ways, either. These performers rely on peer pressure and social norms to achieve their intended outcome (act like a chicken, collapse, etc.). They also whittle down their volunteer performers to find the one or two people that are most likely to conform!

What is it like to be hypnotised?
Hypnosis is different for everyone. Some people report:
- Feelings of relaxation and comfort
- A lightness in body and mind
- Being aware of different sensations of the body
- Physical numbness
- Time distortions
- Memory loss (of what occurred during the session)
Can hypnosis work ONline?
Of course! What's required for hypnosis to work is direction from the hypnotist. This can be done anywhere, as long as the voice can be heard.
Do i need a referral?
No, referrals are not necessary.
